This paper describes a revolution control system of main engines of ships in rough seas. The control system is designed and equipped for the main engine system instead of an usual governor. To have desired characteristics, the control system is constructed with the actuator which has a higher responsibility. This actuator is named Direct Drive Volume Control (DDVC) Hydraulic System. In this research, the authors confirmed the performance with computer simulation at first, and then equipped the system on the real ship. This paper shows the results of some simulation to and the control system. The model of a main engine is obtained from the experimental data of the training ship of Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine, 'Shioji-maru', and the system is equipped on the ship.
