The behaviour of a driver's course decision making is analysed with the theory of fuzzy decision making, and some factors that influence this behaviour are also studied. A fuzzy decision making model for the dynamic determination of the preview course of a vehicle is given. This model can simulate the driver's control behaviour in the process of handling the vehicle while deciding the preview course based on the feasible region of the vehicle's front road. Taking advantage of the character of fuzzy decision making theory, the model can describe many decision criteria such as driving safety, driving handiness and driving legality. The simulation results show that the model can be directly applied to the simulation of a driver-vehicle-road closed-loop system and the research on intelligent vehicles.
