Winning designs in the automotive, appliances or consumer markets is not an easy task for any supplier. In the world of chemical sensors, there are a few examples of successful applications in these fields, one of the most notable being the exhaust probe. However, the need for chemical sensors is real and recurrent. This paper gives a short summary of what has been done in order to satisfy the harsh requirements of these markets specifically for humidity sensors. Very often, the designers are using this type of component for the first time. The required key features are robustness, reliability, process control and not only a low price for the component itself, but also for the complete system.
