The quality of automotive transmission oils are first of all determined by their viscosity and dopping. The antiwear effect of these oils is usually improved by increasing additive level. The wear reducing effect of an automotive transmission oil series has been tested by Amsler A 135 test machine under light and severe conditions, than the effect of the change of EP additive concentration has been observed between 1...10 % by severe test conditions. The wear tests showed that the automotive transmission oils can be classified according to their performance level by tests of great specific surface load. Characteristic differences were found in the case of the application of oil with EP additive and oil without it in connection with the breakdown of the surface and some conclusions could be drawn in connection with the effect of EP additive.
