Many analytical and experimental studies on the power loss of gears have been performed. However there are some problems in accuracy of measurement. Still more, it is required to measure the exact total power loss of a transmission which consists of many gears and rotating elements. In this study, for the exact measurement of the power loss of a transmission, a tested transmission is immersed in the water tank, test equipment which is insulated on the heat transfer. And the inlet and outlet water system temperature and the flow rate are measured. This method has shown fine accuracy and good repeatability in the measurement results. This measurement technology was developed to provide a practical formulation.
