The problem of interfering lifting surfaces in steady, oscillatory and transient incompressible flow is considered. The problem is formulated in terms of an integral equation relating the potential discontinuity on the lifting surfaces and their wakes to the normal derivative of the potential on the lifting surfaces. The integral equation is approximated by a system of linear algebraic equations: this is obtained by dividing the surfaces into small quadrilateral elements, by assuming the potential discontinuity to be constant within each element and by satisfying the tangency boundary condition at the centroid of each element. The steady-state wake geometry is obtained through an iteration process. The method is applied to interfering lifting surface with control surface in intersteady incompressible flow. Isolated wings are considered in the oscillatory and time-domain approaches. Numerical results obtained with the present method agree well with existing theoretical and experimental results.
