The need for an implementation of shock and vibration isolation of antennas and stable platforms is related to accuracy, the force and motion environment, control system performance and protection of sensitive instruments. It is concluded that an isolator must be stiff rotationally to assure accuracy and performance and must be flexible translationally to accommodate shock and vibration motions. A linkage suspension is proposed which has these characteristics, and its force-displacement and force-velocity relations are derived. Rotational stiffness, weight and snubbing are considered. (Se)
