The modern electric propelled vehicle is generally built with variations of Thyristor of SCR (Silicone Controlled Rectifiers) in their basic motor control scheme. The Vehicle creates an electrical environment which can impact the wayside facilities as well as the source of energy which propells the vehicle. In order not to create harmful interference and to establish parameters to which parallel systems can be built without subsequent and/or surprise situations arising as a result of operations of such vehicles, interface specifications must be established that are practical, capable of being verified, and consider both the interests to the vehicle as well as the wayside. Experience has demonstrated that interference must be considered over a wide frequency spectrum, and that various types of vehicle present their own individual concerns. Such an interface specification can be useful to the locomotive designer and builder; for the situation has arisen where a vehicle has been harmed and its operation degraded as a consequence of its own output pattern of electrical environment.
