A magnetically levitated experimental vehicle (ML-100) was de signed and constructed in commemoration of the Centenary of the Japanese National Railways. For magnetic levitation the vehicle is provided with two superconducting magnets developed by the authors. In the test operation of the vehicle, which ended with success in 1972, the superconducting magnets showed stable performance in levitation the vehicle body giving a bright prospect for the completion of a new means of railway transportation for tomorrow.
