This chapter explores the application of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery for identifying shaded paths, which can be valuable for urban planning, environmental conservation, and outdoor recreation. Shaded paths offer numerous benefits, such as reducing heat exposure in microclimates and enhancing the overall thermal comfort and quality of outdoor experiences. UAVs offer a unique opportunity for capturing high-resolution imagery to identify shaded areas in urban and suburban environments. This chapter introduces an approach to identify paths with optimal pedestrian shading availability by integrating UAV imagery, terrestrial street and sidewalk networks, and a multiobjective spatial optimization model.
