Abstract The Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) and IDIADA have been working together with the aim of obtaining more data related to the vehicles registered in Spain and their safety. In order to do so, the DGT has updated the Spanish vehicle registration database from 2009 to 2016. In order to correct and homogenize the database, the data has been processed with an algorithm that processes all the information according to the type-approval number and the vehicle’s generation type. On the other hand, all the Euro NCAP data from its foundation until 2016 has been uploaded to another database manually according to the vehicle’s generation type. Having developed and updated both databases, a matching process was carried out unifying all the registered vehicles with the Euro NCAP results. The database has a sample of 7,499,257 vehicles from 2009 until 2016, of which 99.83% has been normalized according to vehicle commercial name.
