Abstract The new OM 654 four-cylinder diesel-engine is the first engine of the modular Mercedes- Benz engine-family and celebrated its premiere in 2016 in the new E-Class. One of the development objectives apart from optimized weight, emission and fuel consumption was the adjustment to a modular system between diesel / gasoline as well as four- / six cylinder-engines. As a result to the increasing electrification of the powertrain, this focus was indispensable for the engine-family, too. [1]
