Abstract Designing a railway station is a complex decision problem that calls for extensive investigation of alternative solutions. With the purpose of assisting the design studies of Campanhã Railway Station, a major node in the Portuguese Railway Network, a simulation model was developed enabling the planners to evaluate different lay-out solutions under various traffic load conditions. This model uses SIMUVI, an event-based visual interactive simulation system developed by the author that is also briefly described in the paper.
