New vehicle functions are often using information from several vehicle systems to increase performance or to save cost. To reduce the more and more increasing number of functional interconnections the data flow in the entire vehicle has to be restructured. We show an approach clustering functions into 5 major modules but not according to their physical or organizational dependability but for optimizing the entire data flow. The function interfaces are compliant to AUTOSAR definitions. The migration path from today to this new functional architecture is shown for the electrical wedge brake and the integrated vehicle control platform.
