The goal of the current project is to establish a recording and reporting mechanism for collecting field data on the performance and costs of alternatively fueled public transit vehicles operating in Florida in order to assist policy makers with their decisions regarding maintenance resources and future vehicle acquisitions. In addition, the project aims to establish cost estimating guidance for the modification of transit maintenance facilities to make them suitable for servicing alternatively fueled buses. Over the course of the project repeated data requests were sent to 21 fixed-route transit agencies and 12 paratransit operators. Despite the challenges in data collection and low response rate, enough data was collected to represent 70 percent of the Florida fixed route fleet and perform valid analysis of costs. No meaningful cost data was available for demand response vehicles, limiting the extent of the analysis of the paratransit fleet.
