CLARA is an Anglo-French Compact Laser Radar technical demonstrator program. It is a multi-mode CO2 laser radar, the primary mode being cable and obstacle warning, with additional modes including terrain following and a range of targeting modes. The 3 1/2 year program will provide both France and the UK with a podded equipment in 1996. The UK will carry out fixed wing trials and France will fit their pod on a helicopter. The flight trials data are being exchanged between the two countries.
