Drivers verbal responses and involuntary decelerations to eleven different red highway reflector configurations presented in 16mm animated films in the UCLA driving simulation laboratory disclosed the need for a continuing educational program via mass media to make the public aware of the existence of reflectors which indicate wrong way driving; the regular pattern now being used in California seems the least effective to unknowledgable drivers; and an irregular configuration not continuously repeated appears to elicit the most responses from unknowledgable drivers. Cost reductions for the state are indicated.
