This report, conducted by Louis Berger International, Inc., was funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency. It evaluates the feasibiliy of developing Lota's port facilities as a means of promoting economic opportunity and diversification in an area that was previously largely dependent of coal mining. The volume contains economic and foreign trade scenarios, intermodal connections and island transport scenarios, analysis of the competing ports and the strategic position of Lota. This project has the export potential of $28.4 million, with the majority of exports coming from cargo manufacturing equipment, dock levelers, scissor lifts, forklifts, container cranes, and tractors.
