This citation summarizes a one-page announcement of technology available for utilization. Ways of making helicopters less susceptible to sideway rollover and of minimizing injury and damage if rollover should occur are examined in a study conducted for the U.S. Army Aviation Research and Development Command. Lateral rollover, in which a helicopter rotates about a landing skid and falls on its side, invariably causes extensive damage, since the spinning main rotor strikes the ground. The survey was based on an analysis of rollover accidents occurring over a 6 1/2-year period and on the computer simulation of aircraft behavior during rollover. ...FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Detailed information about the technology described may be obtained by ordering the NTIS report, order number: AD-A081420, order number: PC A06 or contact Project officer Leroy T.
