This report includes descriptions of research facilities and progress reports on projects currently underway at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS). Experimental facilities include the Aeroacoustics Laboratory, the Air Cushion Test Track, the Dusty Gas Shock Tube Facility, the Flexible Spacecraft Emulator, the Flight Simulator, the Fusion Plasma Simulator, the Heave Table Facility for research into suspension systems of earthbound or near-earth vehicles, the Implosion Dynamics Laboratory, the Space Robotics Laboratory, the Structure and Materials Laboratory, the Subsonic Wind Tunnel, the Turbulent Combustion Laboratory, and the Vacuum Sphere and Hot Flow Test Facility. The Applied Mass Spectroscopy Lab and the Physical and Analytical Characterization Lab provide analytical support for UTIAS activities. Brief summaries are provided on research related to aeroacoustics, aerodynamics, air cushion technology, combustion and propulsion, computational fluid dynamics, fiber optics smart structures, flight research, flight simulation, fusion energy, hypersonic aerodynamics, space processing of materials, production of materials under extreme conditions, non-stationary gas dynamics, shock waves, implosions and dusty gases, space robotics, spacecraft dynamics and control, and structural mechanics related to composites and other high performance materials.
