Improvements in mass transportation systems, particularly bus service, could even out the current overuse and underuse of beaches in the New York City coastal region. This survey of users of Coney Island, Orchard Beach, Riis Park, Great Kills, and Jones Beach showed that easy access can encourage people to use a beach they had considered undesirable.
