A method, namely ‘Eigen-Graphic’ method, is presented in this paper for predicting the occurrence of the coupled resonance of the coupled motion between two ships. Basically, this idea combines the eigen value solution – and using the graphic method to find the coupled resonance which is quite different from the natural frequency of single ship’s motion. Most of the frequencies of peaks for the coupled motions can be predicted by this method. Ah the hydrodynamic coefficients, the added masses and damping coefficients, are calculated by the integral equation method two-dimensionally, which have been proved to be analytically and experimentally resonable. Therefore the method presented here can be regarded as an effective tool to analyze the phenomena of the coupled resonance. Hopefully it may be applied to the other multi-degree of freedom problem in mechanics.
