This paper studies on a new disk-shaped AUV namely “Autonomous Underwater Helicopter” proposed at the Ocean College of Zhejiang University. The reliability of the numerical method is verified by comparison with the experimental data, in which the additional mass of the ellipsoid similar to that of the autonomous underwater helicopter is calculated. Based on the overlapping grid technology of fluid simulation software STAR-CCM+, the hydrodynamic performances of autonomous underwater helicopter in heaving motion and swaying motion are calculated under different inlet velocities and different frequencies, which provides an important references for the subsequent research and design of submarines.
