To provide a method for producing a rubber composition excellent in dispersibility of silica and capable of reducing power consumption consumed in the whole production process.SOLUTION: The method for producing a rubber composition comprises a kneading process of kneading a rubber composition containing at least a rubber component, silica and a silane coupling agent in a kneading chamber provided in a closed kneader. The closed kneader includes: a neck part positioned above the kneading chamber and having a cylindrical space therein; and a ram capable of vertically moving in the cylindrical space of the neck part and capable of pressing the rubber composition in the kneading chamber from above when kneading the rubber composition. In the kneading process, the rubber composition is kneaded with the temperature controlled within a predetermined temperature range, while maintaining the ram in a non-pressing state, for a fixed period of time.SELECTED DRAWING: None
