PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which riblets and other microstructures can also cause or prevent certain optical/aesthetic/visual effects including high reflectivity and directional reflectiveness, and/or other potential effects on the aesthetics of aircraft based on their geometry.SOLUTION: One disclosed example apparatus includes an aerodynamic microstructure 300 defining an external surface of a vehicle, and a pattern of sub-microstructures 312, 314, 316 superimposed on the microstructure to convey a representation of an image.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
