A system (10) for operating an automated vehicle includes a perception-sensor (28), a display (34), and a controller-circuit (40). The perception-sensor (28) is used to determine a rendering of an area (32) proximate to a host-vehicle (12). The display (34) is operable to convey to an operator (18) of the host-vehicle (12) a position (36) of an object (22) present in the area (32) in accordance with the rendering. The controller-circuit (40) is in communication with the perception-sensor (28) and the display (34). The controller-circuit (40) is configured to operate the host-vehicle (12) in an autonomous-mode (14), and operate the display (34) to convey to the operator (18) a history (20) of the position (36) of the object (22) in accordance with the rendering. The history (20) is conveyed in response to initiating a transition (24) of operation of the host-vehicle (12) from the autonomous-mode (14) to a manual-mode (16).
