A solar mat for installation on a mountain lake, comprising a plurality of floating elements, each of the floating elements being configured to support loads while floating on the surface of the lake and resisting forces coming from at least another of the floating elements or from environmental influence; one or more photovoltaic panels mounted on each of the elements of the plurality of floating elements, by means respectively of a support structure configured to separate the photovoltaic panels from the surface of the water at a predetermined height, chosen to avoid contact with the water and so that any snow that may come in contact with a photovoltaic panel can easily fall from the panel for removal without accumulating in front of the panels; an inverter and a transformer; a floating structure defined to support the inverter and the transformer; articulated connection means connecting the elements of the plurality of floating elements and the floating structure defined between them in a matrix to constitute the solar mat. The articulated connection means are furthermore configured so that the floating elements are placed on the ground at the bottom of the lake by conforming to the topography of the lake when the lake is substantially empty of water.
