The invention belongs to the field of ship design, and particularly relates to a nuclear power icebreaker containment energy absorption buffering protection structure which is applied to ice load resistance of a nuclear power icebreaker. Comprising an anti-impact area, a transition area and a reactor cabin, the anti-impact area is connected with the transition area, the transition area is connected with the reactor cabin, and the transition area is located between the anti-impact area and the reactor cabin. The system and the method have the beneficial effects that 1) the containment is better protected by arranging the additional isolation cabin and an accessory structure thereof outside the containment; (2) by arranging the supporting longitudinal girders, the stress distribution of impact loads transmitted to components in the ship is improved, and the position of a high-stress area is benign changed; and (3) the structure has the characteristics obviously weaker than those of an anti-impact area and a reactor cabin component, and meanwhile, a large number of open pores are designed, so that an obvious buffer area and a fracture interface are formed in the area after a ship is impacted by an extreme event, and the integrity of the reactor cabin containment is effectively protected.
