The invention discloses an intersection traffic state evaluation method and system based on video target tracking, and relates to the field of intelligent road parking management, and the method comprises the steps: obtaining the corresponding stay duration of each vehicle in an intersection according to an intersection region video image, according to preset driving vehicle average speed information corresponding to different congestion states and the width information corresponding to the intersection, determining the stay duration of the vehicles corresponding to the different congestion states in the intersection; and then comparing the staying time of the vehicle in the intersection obtained in real time with the staying duration of the vehicle in the intersection corresponding to different congestion states, and determining the traffic state in the intersection, thereby realizing the evaluation of the traffic state in the intersection based on video image vehicle target tracking, and the speed measurement of the vehicle at the intersection through a radar. Compared with the prior art, the traffic state evaluation in the intersection is carried out based on the vehicle speed monitored by the radar, and the traffic state evaluation in the intersection is carried out directly through the stay duration corresponding to each vehicle in the intersection based on the video image vehicle target tracking, so that the accuracy of the traffic state evaluation in the intersection can be improved.
