The invention relates to a head-up display and a control method thereof. A head-up display for a vehicle according to the present invention comprises: a display element for outputting light; an optical system that controls the path of the light such that an image formed by the light is output toward a light-transmissive region; and a control unit that controls the display element so as to form the image, and the optical system controls the path of the light so that a virtual image of the image is located on a front ground surface of the vehicle after the image passes through the light-transmissive region. The image is generated by using a first viewpoint facing the ground surface with an eye-box as a reference and a second viewpoint facing a three-dimensional space on the ground surface with the eye-box as a reference so that a graphic object having a stereoscopic impression with the ground surface as a reference is included in a virtual image of the image.
