The invention provides a traffic light control system and method for a special vehicle to pass preferentially. The control system comprises a special vehicle identification module, a road junction module, a calculation module and a traffic light module. The traffic light control method comprises the following steps that (1) when the special vehicle identification module identifies a special vehicle, the control module adjusts traffic lights except the direction of the special vehicle to red lights and adjusts traffic lights in the direction of the special vehicle to green lights; (2) the special vehicle identification module sends information to a road junction module, and the road junction module sends speed and position information to a calculation module; (3) the calculation module calculates the distance between the tail of the special vehicle and the traffic light and the duration of the special vehicle passing through the traffic light and sends the distance and the duration to a control module, and the control module adjusts the duration into the duration of the traffic light in the direction where the special vehicle is located; and (4) after the special vehicle passes, the traffic light recovers to the original state. The technical problem that the special vehicle delays working due to traffic reasons in the prior art is solved.
