Problems and limitations of nuclear rockets which might be launched within next 10 yr; on basis of payload weight or overall cost, 60,000 lb vehicle is competitive with chemical vehicle; in range of flows for vehicle with Is of 850 sec at about 10 to 20 lb/sec, pebble bed reactor with uranium loaded graphite pellets can be used without suffering excessive propellant pressure drop through core.
