Possibilities of using supersonic combustion for air vehicles in mid-hypersonic range are examined by considering its propulsion aspect and conditions of suitable supersonic combustion; study of combustion in supersonic stream shows evolution of ratio of heat inputs to stagnation enthalpy of air as function of flight Mach number; it is possible to obtain without any auxiliary device stable combustion in supersonic flow when air temperature is high enough for autoignition of air-fuel mixture; regions for which it is possible to assure combustion by autoignition without being limited by heat input considerations are determined.
