Optical "Bus Electronic Scanning System" developed by Electrical Engineering Department of London Transport for tracing 7000 buses operating on 500 routes; equipment at check points along routes reads number of each bus as it passes point and transmits it over telephone wires to central locations, where it is displayed on panel and recorded on chart; bus equipment, scanning equipment, and control center equipment, described.
