Experiments were undertaken to test effect of 2 types of driver information displays on vehicle spacing; first meter showed driver actual distance between his car and car ahead; second meter showed driver algebraic sum of distance between the 2 cars and their relative velocity; latter display increased spacing stability; experiment was performed to establish effect on spacing control of more information about vehicle spacing and relative speed.
