Wheels of locomotive axes are subject to wear during operation, when thewheel is contacting the track in the railway curves both with its rolling surface andflange. The quality of both of the mentioned surfaces has a direct impact on railwaytraffic safety; therefore, their wear is under special control. Statistic methods of researchof wear of locomotive axes can be efficiently divided into two types: regression andprobability. The article discusses the examples of research completed in Lithuanianrailways. Recommendations on which method is the most appropriate method to use inwhich situation is provided according to results of the research.
