Investigation of the dynamic train-structure interaction is a key component of the design of high speed railway (HSR) bridges. Train-induced resonant vibrations of simple spans may lead to excessive deck accelerations at speeds lower than the maximum line design speed, with consequent partial wheel-rail contact, reduced passenger comfort, ballast destabilization, settlement of sleepers, and rapid deterioration of track quality with need for frequent maintenance.
